You’ve probably heard the word Reiki before—whispered in healing circles, listed on spa menus, or mentioned by someone who “felt energy” flow through their hands. But what is Reiki, really?
As a Grand Reiki Master and teacher of thousands of students over the past 25+ years, I’ve seen firsthand how this seemingly simple practice transforms lives—not just physically, but emotionally, spiritually, and energetically. So let’s go back to the beginning.

Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) is a Japanese word composed of two kanji:
Together, Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy—a healing frequency that flows through all living things. It’s the energy that animates us, surrounds us, and connects us to the divine.
Reiki works by activating the body’s natural healing processes and balancing the energy systems within.
A Reiki practitioner becomes a conduit for this healing energy. During a session, they place their hands lightly on or just above the client’s body, allowing the energy to flow where it’s most needed—whether that’s physical pain, emotional tension, or energetic imbalance.
Clients often describe feeling:
But Reiki doesn’t force change. It invites alignment. It doesn’t manipulate—it flows with wisdom. That’s what makes it so gentle, and yet so powerful.
Reiki can support healing on many levels:
It is also used in hospitals around the world as a complementary therapy, supporting patients through surgery recovery, cancer treatment, and chronic illness management.
Not at all. Reiki is spiritual, but not tied to any religion or dogma. It works regardless of your beliefs, and often deepens your own intuitive connection—whatever that may look like for you.
Whether you’re praying to God, meditating with crystals, or simply seeking peace in a chaotic world, Reiki meets you where you are.
Absolutely. That’s one of the greatest gifts of Reiki. You don’t have to be “gifted” or psychic—you just need willingness and an open heart. Once you’re attuned by a Reiki Master (like me), you have it for life. It becomes part of who you are.
Some students begin their journey to heal themselves. Others go on to become practitioners, energy medicine teachers, or simply use Reiki to support their families.
When I first discovered Reiki, I didn’t realize it would open the door to a completely new way of seeing the world—and myself. It led me to write over 40 books, teach around the globe, and eventually develop the Reiki Wisdom series to preserve this knowledge for future generations.
Reiki showed me that healing isn’t about fixing—it’s about remembering who we truly are.
