Volume 8 in the series “Secrets of a Healer.”

Reiki is a form of alternative healing therapy that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. The word “Reiki” is derived from two Japanese words: “rei,” which means “universal,” and “ki,” which means “life energy” or “vital energy.” Reiki is often described as a technique that harnesses and channels this universal life energy to promote healing and balance in the body, mind, and spirit.

Description

Reiki training consists of several levels, each associated with its own set of teachings, techniques, and attunements. Here’s an overview of the common levels of Reiki training:

  1. Reiki Level 1 (Reiki I or First Degree):

    • This is the introductory level of Reiki training.
    • Students learn the basic principles of Reiki, including its history, philosophy, and the concept of energy healing.
    • The primary focus is on self-healing, and students are taught hand positions for self-treatment.
    • Students receive the first attunement, which is a sacred initiation process conducted by a Reiki master. It opens the energy channels in the student, allowing them to connect to the universal life energy.
    • After completing Reiki Level 1, individuals can perform Reiki on themselves and others, primarily for physical healing.
  2. Reiki Level 2 (Reiki II or Second Degree):

    • At this level, students deepen their Reiki practice and learn to work with more advanced techniques.
    • Students are introduced to three sacred symbols: the power symbol, the mental/emotional symbol, and the distant healing symbol. These symbols are said to enhance the flow of Reiki energy and facilitate specific types of healing.
    • The focus expands beyond physical healing to include emotional and mental healing.
    • Students receive the second attunement, which increases the flow of Reiki energy and enables them to perform distant healing, allowing them to send Reiki energy across time and space to individuals who are not physically present.
  3. Reiki Level 3 (Reiki III or Master Practitioner):

    • This level is sometimes divided into two sub-levels: Reiki IIIa (Master Practitioner) and Reiki IIIb (Master Teacher).

    • In Reiki IIIa, students learn advanced techniques for energy healing and may receive additional symbols specific to their Reiki lineage.

    • The third attunement is given, further increasing the practitioner’s energy capacity.

    • Master Practitioners are prepared to work as professional Reiki healers and may offer Reiki sessions to clients.

    • In Reiki IIIb (Master Teacher), individuals learn how to teach and attune others to Reiki. They gain the ability to pass on the Reiki attunements to students at all levels.

    • Becoming a Reiki Master Teacher carries the responsibility of training and certifying others in Reiki.

  4. Reiki Level 4 (Reiki IV or Reiki Master Teacher/Teacher Trainer):

    • Some Reiki traditions have a fourth level, which is a higher level of mastery.
    • In this level, practitioners deepen their understanding of Reiki and may receive additional teachings, symbols, or techniques.
    • Reiki Master Teachers at this level are often qualified to train and certify Reiki Master Teachers (Teacher Trainers).
